Here are some of the characteristics to look for in a good school:
- An established grandmaster with good credentials.
- Students are frequently taught by the master, not by upper color belts.
- Students that act as a team rather than as individuals.
- World Tae Kwon Do Federation (WTF) Member. The WTF is the most recognized martial arts organization in the world and the official conductor of Tae Kwon Do at the Olympics.
A good school should be balanced with traditional Tae Kwon Do and sport Tae Kwon Do (olympic style). A well-rounded education of Tae Kwon Do is a necessity of a true martial artist. One must be taught in every aspect of Tae Kwon Do such as history, philosophy, tenents, self discipline, self defense, forms, sparring, and other techniques. A school that only emphasize on certain aspects of Tae Kwon Do is not recommended. For true meaning of Tae Kwon Do will help ones attitude, discipline, and the way of life.
